As we’ve showed you in many of our before and afters, a warm wall color and beautiful draperies make a huge difference. Vacant homes also lack the warm inviting feeling that buyers are looking for. Here we rented them a beautiful living room set to make buyers feel at home.

This home was filled with beautiful furniture pieces, but each piece was a different style. In this living room there is contemporary, traditional, formal, and mid-century modern. To give this room a more cohesive feel, we used a transitional sofa and brought in red pillows and mantle accessories to draw the eye around the room.

My favorite type of staging is when I can creatively use everything a homeowner already owns to create a new look for a home. This home in Orono had lots of great furniture and accessories. We just needed to declutter, depersonalize and do a bit of rearranging.

January 2012 Featured Before and After

This living room was a fun transformation for us. The space was spectacular with huge windows and tall ceilings. However, the dirty carpet, bland fireplace and old wood cabinetry were not showing well. We tiled the entire fireplace wall to create a gorgeous focal point, painted the wood work and warmed up the walls. Furniture really helped create an inviting space for buyers, too.

Many homeowners can’t afford to rent all new furniture to stage their home, so often we have to work with older furniture. Here we updated the room by removing the lace curtains and adding updated tables, rug, art and accessories. The impact that fresh pillows can make on an older sofa is amazing!

This was a great family room overlooking a beautiful pond. However, the clutter, mismatching furniture and cool colors were not appealing. First we painted the walls a warm color from the brick, added soft drapery panels and replaced the blue carpet with a nuetral frize. Then we added some rental furniture, art and accessories.

This redesign was a fun project because the homeowner had so many nice pieces. First we painted the walls and replaced the dated vertical blinds with soft drapery panels. Sometimes the layout of a room can make it really difficult for furniture placement. In this long, narrow room, there were 2 large doorways and a bay window so the homeowners had 2 separate seating areas. To create just one seating area, we put the furniture on an angle to take advantage of the floorspace in the bay window and still allow access to both doorways. The plant was from another room and we added a few new pillows and accessories finish it off.

When a room has white trim, walls, ceiling and floors, there is nothing to define the different surfaces and create visual interest. In this living room, we wanted the white trim and crown moulding to stand out, so we added dark wood floors and a rich wall color. Draperies and furniture create an inviting atmosphere.
